Sint Maarten is the Dutch spelling. This was the side I stayed, at the Sonesta. St. Martin is the French side where the Orient Beach is, where I visited and pictures are presented. Some time ago there was a war over the small island between the French and the Dutch. They more less got tired of it and decided to make a deal and split the island. So, the North side belongs to the French, apparently it doesn't rain on that side. Where as the South side belongs to the Dutch and it rained often for 5-10 minutes.
